The article deals with differential capacities for technical adaptation in rapidly changing environments. Case studies on interactive videotext systems in Germany and France which have been developed during the 90s show that varaying technical designs involve specific form constraints for flexible adaptation. It is shown that the German system was much more capable to adapt to the new internet environment than the French, due to its decentralized technical structure.
